Professional Profile

Mr Rishi Kanabar trained to be a dietitian in 2008 and completed an accelerated BSc Honors degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Hertfordshire in 2012. Having gained experience in multiple leading hospitals in the East of England, Mr Kanabarleft university with experience of working in both the community and the acute setting.

Training

Since graduating his second degree, Rishi has gained tremendous experience working in all fields of adult dietetic practice. Rising through the ranks he has covered respiratory, oncology stroke and elderly specialisms.

Practice

He continues to provide specialist gastroenterology & hepatology services, working as a Principal Dietitian. This often involves assisting patients manage multiple comorbidities where dietary advice can often come across contradictory. Explaining key health and dietary messages in simple and logical terms is one of his greatest strengths and by helping patients to engage with their condition help to create the necessary dietary changes.

Mr Kanabar understands that no two people are the same, with people having varying priorities and commitments, which often inhibit their ability to address their health needs in a rigid healthcare system. This commitment to ensuring equality of care, forms a key pillar to his ideology, of providing limitless care at the convenience of his patients. He shares the ideology that treatment should be tailored to both your social and health needs. He will only provide the latest in ethical, evidence-based advice, and his bespoke service will enable and empower you to overcome any dietary challenges faced.

Rishi has grown up living in the inner suburban areas of South London, which remains his base. Growing up in a diverse multicultural society has given him the people skills required to engage with all people, as well as understand their diverse lives and diets.

Having a personal interest in fitness and health,  Mr Kanabar continues to strive to better himself and unlike most diet and fitness professionals, he admits to his own goals. Being a keen cyclist Rishi has accomplished an unsupported 3 day cycle to Paris. He continually aims to better himself, through regular contemplation and goal setting. Combining his motivation to continue with his own fitness and dietary goals, he creates a sense of understanding with his patients. Being able to engage and confide with your mentor is often the most difficult, but most important factor when discussing your health goals.

Academic

Having completed further learning into behavioural change techniques, Rishi has adapted his communication skills to empower and motivate long term dietary and lifestyle changes required. Detailed communication and tailored negotiated plans are a key component of the follow on from any consultation, which is provided in a timely fashion.

Being at the forefront of providing high quality care in a tertiary care centre, Rishi has both the skill and knowledge required to tailor the correct and necessary dietary advice based on knowledge and experience.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

Having grown up with a father in the motor trade, cars and driving have always been a passion of his. In all honesty it’s a passion with anything with wheels. As a result, Mr Kanabar enjoys tinkering with cars in his spare time, going to track days, go karting and cycling. Coupling this to health and fitness, he cycles to work and thoroughly enjoys deep cleaning his vehicles at the weekend. His other hobbies include walking in the great outdoors, going to the gym and playing football.
