Miss Ramya Kalaiselvan is a highly skilled Consultant General Surgeon specialising in Minimal Access General and Colorectal Surgery. She was appointed as Consultant Surgeon at Mersey and West Lancashire NHS Trust in June 2018 and currently serves as Deputy Divisional Medical Director for Surgical Specialities, a role she has held since May 2025. Her leadership and clinical expertise have established her as a key figure in advancing surgical care across the region. 

Miss Kalaiselvan trained at leading surgical units in Liverpool and Manchester, gaining extensive experience in complex colorectal and general surgery. She completed her specialist training at the prestigious National Intestinal Failure Unit in Salford, where she developed advanced skills in managing complex gastrointestinal conditions. Her commitment to excellence in surgical innovation was further enhanced by a visiting fellowship at the world-renowned Comprehensive Hernia Centre at Cleveland Clinic, USA. 

Her clinical practice focuses on minimally invasive techniques, offering patients the benefits of reduced recovery times, less post-operative pain and improved outcomes. Miss Kalaiselvan provides expert care in all aspects of colorectal surgery, including the management of bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and benign colorectal conditions. She also specialises in advanced hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction, applying cutting-edge laparoscopic and robotic approaches to deliver the highest standard of care. 

In addition to her clinical work, Miss Kalaiselvan plays an influential role in shaping surgical services nationally. She is Chair of Coloproctology for the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance, Mersey Chapter Representative for the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, and Treasurer of the Coloproctology Section at the Royal Society of Medicine. These positions reflect her dedication to improving patient outcomes and advancing surgical standards through collaboration and education.
