Within the NHS, he serves as a Senior Substantive Consultant at the Kent Oncology Centre, leading the GI medical oncology services at Darent Valley Hospital.

Prior to his current roles, Professor De Mello advanced his sub-specialty expertise at the University of Oxford, where he served as both a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a Senior Clinical Researcher.
