After qualifying in 1988, Mr Rama Mohan completed his post-graduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery in India in 1990. In the UK, he undertook his higher surgical training in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and other hospitals in the West of Scotland Orthopaedic training program.
Mr Mohan completed a year of fellowship training in Adult Reconstructive and Lower Limb Arthroplasty from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, and further fellowship in Trauma and Pelvic Reconstruction with Professor Ganz from Berne, Switzerland.
He was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2002 at North Manchester General Hospital, with clinical practice mainly focused on the treatment of all aspects of hip and knee arthritis, including primary and revision arthroplasty and arthroscopic surgery.
He specialises in surgery for young patients with hip arthritis, undertaking both cemented and uncemented total hip replacements, including ceramic on ceramic and metal on crosslinked polyethylene bearings. Mr Mohan also specialises in complex reconstructions, including revision hip and knee arthroplasty surgery, and custom-made hip replacements and MRI-based personalised total knee replacements.
He undertakes joint preserving surgery for hip arthritis and minimally invasive total hip replacements. He is trained in undertaking MAKO and NAVIO robotic hip and knee replacements.
Mr Mohan's research interests mainly centre on the assessment of clinical outcomes following hip and knee replacement surgery.
