About Mr Rajiv Nair

Personal Profile

Mr Nair is a highly experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 23 years of experience in trauma and orthopaedics. He specialises in hip and knee arthroplasty, complex lower limb reconstruction, and sarcoma and pelvic surgery, with a strong focus on restoring mobility and improving quality of life for his patients.

He began his medical career after graduating from Trivandrum Medical College in South India in 1998, where he completed his early orthopaedic training. He subsequently pursued a master's degree in Trauma and Orthopaedics from the University of Edinburgh, followed by a Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and obtained a Diploma from the European Board of Trauma and Orthopaedics (FEBOT).

Mr Nair’s advanced surgical training in the UK included soft tissue knee surgery at Merseyside and hip and knee arthroplasty and reconstructive surgery at Oxford University Hospitals. He further completed a senior fellowship in Sarcoma, Pelvic Reconstruction and Limb Salvage at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, where he was also part of the renowned Bone Infection

Currently, Mr Nair serves as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, covering Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital. He is also actively involved in research and education, serving as Teaching Lead for over three years and Trauma Lead for the last two years within the department. His commitment to advancing orthopaedic knowledge is reflected in his eight peer-reviewed publications over the past five years.

Academic & Research Interests

Mr Nair is actively engaged in clinical research, particularly in the areas of joint reconstruction, bone infection, and limb salvage techniques. He regularly contributes to national and international conferences and has authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Teaching & Leadership

A passionate educator, Mr Nair has held key teaching and leadership roles, including Teaching Lead and Trauma Lead for his department. He is dedicated to mentoring junior doctors and orthopaedic trainees, fostering excellence and innovation in orthopaedic care.
