About Mr Rajesh Kavia

Personal Profile

Mr Rajesh Kavia completed his undergraduate training at Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School in 1999 and obtained multiple distinctions during his degree. Following that, he trained on the North West London Urology rotation, completing his training with a Fellowship at the famous department of female and reconstructive urology at University College London Hospital. 

Rajesh is competent in all aspects of general urology - his interest lies in functional urology and incontinence in both females and males. He can deal with a wide range of pathologies, such as diagnostics and management of prostate and bladder problems, including Urolift procedure, chronic urological pain, erectile dysfunction, circumcisions, and endoscopic stone management. In addition to that, he is also competent in general paediatric urology, including circumcisions and inguino-scrotal procedures. He is the Clinical Lead at London North West University NHS Trust for Female Urology, Incontinence and Paediatric Urology.

He is the MDT chair for local functional urology team, a member of the North West London Regional Female urology and Urogynaecology MDT and a core member of the cancer MDT. He has launched the Urolift at his NHS trust and was the first surgeon to perform this on an NHS patient within the M25, he is a mentor and proctor for Urolift and clinical investigator. He will see patients with concerns about prostate cancer or bladder cancers, and is a core member of the cancer team ensuring all cases are managed and discussed at the local multi-disciplinary team.

He regularly treats patients for their overactive bladders, leading the Urodynamics, Botox and Sacral Nerve Stimulation service at the trust. Rajesh works closely with the St Mark’s Complex Cancer Team and is one of their 2 reconstructive urological surgeons. Rajesh regularly performs stone surgeries, including rigid and flexible ureteroscopy and LASER operations, and ESWL. 

Rajesh has been involved in research for a long time, which was undertaken at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and was published internationally, with papers on functional brain imaging in urology and neuromodulation. His research led to internationally recognised prizes and awards. He is a co-investigator in the PULSER Urolift study for retention and is investigating a drug eluting stent for urethral strictures.

He is also involved in teaching and is currently the Course Director for the North West London Mock FRCS(Urol) viva course and examiner for higher surgical trainees in London.
Rajesh constantly strives to improve the Urology department at London North West NHS Trust, and has been leading the junior doctor’s rota, and previously he was a Clinical Lead for the Trust Transformation Team, during which time he set up a Trust Foundation Doctors Programme to train junior doctors. 

He is a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian, a role that he was recently appointed to. 

During the COVID crisis, he worked out of 10 London Hospitals to manage his NHS cases, trained and worked in the Vaccination Team and facilitated care in the ITU.

Married since 2002 and with two beautiful children, Rajesh enjoys spending time with his family, wining, dining and the odd West End Musical!  He regularly goes to the gym and currently aiming to complete the couch to 10K!
