Since 1998 Dr Rachel Jenkins has been Consultant Dermatologist at West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (WSH) building up the service substantially both on the main site and through additional clinics at Sudbury, Thetford, Newmarket and  Haverhill.

From April 2014 until May 2022 she was Lead Dermatology Consultant at WSH.  She is the Lead for the phototherapy service at WSH and was previously the Co-Lead for patch tests at WSH.

Additionally Dr Jenkins Leads for Teaching and is a University of Cambridge Senior Clinical Tutor.  

  • Dr Jenkins is a Member of the Dermatology Council at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
  • She graduated from the University College and Middlesex Hospital Medical School, University of London in 1986 having also completed a B.Sc in Immunology and Genetics. 
  • Her Dermatology training (as Senior House Officer, Registrar and Senior Registrar) was at St John's Institute of Dermatology, St Thomas's Hospital in London. 

From 1994-1996 she was Dowling Fellow at the University of California, San Diego working on melanoma vaccines. 

In 1997 she was awarded M.D. based on her thesis: ‘Immunogenetics of Pemphigoid Gestationis’ (PG).  PG is a rare blistering rash of pregnancy on which she published several papers and was awarded first prize by the American Society of Dermatopathology, San Francisco.

Clinical Interests

  • General dermatology treatment including psoriasis, ezcema, acne, rosacea, hair loss (alopecia), hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), viral warts, and removal of skin lesions and skin cancer diagnosis and treatments.
