Dr Prithviraj Rao trained firstly in Paediatrics in Newcastle, and then in the sub-specialities of Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Paediatric Nutrition at Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield Children’s Hospitals. The varied training culminated in an immediate offer of a Consultant's post in Paediatric Gastroenterology at Sheffield Children's Hospital. The diversity of training has allowed him to bring the best management practices from other areas into his own personal practice.
Whilst in post at the Children's Hospital's, he has taken a lead in streamlining paediatric inflammatory bowel disease care, designing hospital protocols as well as initiating and running the first training course in Paediatric Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a regular faculty on national training courses for Paediatric Wireless Capsule Enteroscopy, Colonoscopy and Therapeutic Endoscopy. He has had the privilege to work with some of the pioneers in paediatric endoscopy and this has led to expertise in novel techniques like double balloon enteroscopy, endoscopic pyloromyotomy etc. Dr Rao has multiple international presentations and publications, as well as the offer to lecture and teach at international events.
His strengths in his career so far have been, being receptive and a deep understanding of the child and parents perspective.
