Miss Thampi obtained her Medical Degree from Madras (India) and completed her general Obstetrics and Gynaecology training in South West Thames Region in London and has gained vast experience in major teaching hospitals such as St. George’s Hospital in London.
After completing of Specialist training in Gynaecology, Miss Thampi obtained her MSc in Medical Ultrasound from Guys, Kings and St Thomas Hospital, London.
Miss Thampi has performed in excess of 30 major open operations on a yearly basis, particularly hysterectomies (abdominal and vaginal) and prolapse repairs as well as myomectomies.
She is also skilled in laparoscopic surgery and regularly performs numerous laparoscopic procedures such as the removal of tubes and or ovaries, and removal of cysts and has hysteroscopic skills in performing Myosure removal of endometrial polyps, endometrial ablation and submucous fibroids. She provides a holistic approach to pelvic floor disorders focusing on problems related to childbirth and its consequences. She pursues optimal conservative management before resorting to surgery.
She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and is the Lead Clinician for Primary Care Outpatient clinic in Gynaecology under the FedBucks Health in Buckinghamshire.
Miss Thampi is passionate about research and recognises its role in advancing health. She was the Lead for Research in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Milton Keynes Hospital and was honoured with the Green Shoots Funding Award. She had participated in Quality improvement projects funded by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Having worked as Clinical Lecturer in St Georges University, London, Miss Thampi continues to maintain her teaching portfolio. She has been a Preceptor for Advanced Training Skill Modules in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is a member of the Faculty for Enhanced Revision Programme at RCOG for MRCOG examination.
Miss Thampi collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of nurses and physiotherapists and works within the confines of national guidelines. She is able to offer a wide range of investigations and treatments for menopause symptoms, premenstrual disorders and recurrent miscarriage.
In addition, she offers treatment for a wide range of gynaecological conditions such as menstrual problems, pelvic pain, medical and surgical options for pelvic floor disorders and sexual dysfunction.
Miss Thampi has a strong research background and has lectured widely in national and international meetings. She was the Principal Investigator at MKUH for portfolio studies and was awarded Green Shoots Funding. She is also involved in numerous clinical trials and quality improvement projects.
She participated in the GaPP colloborative Gabapentin for chronic pelvic pain in women: a multi centre, randomised and double- blind placebo controlled trial from 2015-2019 which was published in The Lancet Volume 396 on September 26, 2020.
