Mr Ellapparadja is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in soft tissue knee surgery and arthroplasty, especially in joint preserving knee surgeries and sports knee injuries.
At Circle Health Group he offers various surgeries, including total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, Patellofemoral joint knee replacement, arthroscopic surgeries including ACL reconstruction, meniscal repairs and cartilage regeneration procedure, as well as knee joint preserving procedures such as high tibial osteotomy and distal femoral osteotomy around the knee. He also offers treatment for patellofemoral problems, including MPFL and TTO surgeries. His NHS practice is currently based in Tameside & Glossop Integrated Foundation NHS Trust.
After graduating from premier medical school, JIPMER, India, he completed his post-graduate orthopaedic training and emigrated to the UK. He completed his basic surgical training (BST) in Wales and Higher Surgical Training (HST) on the West of Scotland rotation in and around Glasgow. During the final year of HST, he trained under renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Kinninmonth in Golden Jubilee National Hospital, a European Centre of Orthopaedic Excellence for joint replacements. Here, he learnt the foundation principles of primary hip and knee replacements and enhanced recovery. During his training, he developed special interest in knee surgery which led him to be selected for the prestigious BOA transitional fellowship in Knee Osteotomy and Soft Tissue Knee Surgery where he learnt the principles of knee joint preservation by restoring the alignment. He complemented this fellowship with Mr Geutjen's Sports Knee fellowship in Derby, where he learnt the principles of ligament reconstruction around the knee.
He strongly focuses on evidence-based medicine and implements enhanced recovery in all his hip and knee replacement patients, thereby diminishing their length of inpatient hospital stay. He actively contributes to the National Joint Registry (NJR) data as well the UK Knee Osteotomy Registry (UKKOR). He also actively collects Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) data from his patients which helps him to understand the outcome of his surgical intervention, so that he can reflect and improve his practice.
He actively participates in research and has presented in several international meetings. He is currently the Principal Investigator for the WHITE trial, a multicentric RCT for NOFs with Tameside Hospital having been chosen as a centre to participate in this exciting study. He has authored several international publications, including an ACL reconstruction technique in the Journal of Knee Surgery. He is very keen on teaching and is the Educational Lead for junior doctors at Tameside Hospital. He keeps himself updated by regularly attending courses and webinars to maintain the good clinical practice guidelines set by the GMC.
