Mr Praveen Kumar is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with over 30 years of clinical expertise, specialising in cataract and retinal disorders. He serves as an NHS Consultant and is the Clinical Lead for Macular Degeneration, delivering expert care in the diagnosis and management of complex retinal conditions.

Mr Kumar graduated with an MBBS from the University of Madras in 1993. He subsequently completed his residency in ophthalmology at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), one of India’s most prestigious medical institutions. During his time there, he earned both a Diploma and a Master’s degree in Ophthalmology, establishing a strong academic and surgical foundation.

Committed to advancing his expertise, Mr Kumar undertook a Glaucoma Fellowship at the internationally renowned Aravind Eye Hospital, refining his skills in managing complex eye diseases, including advanced cataracts and retinal disorders. He began his UK career with an attachment at Moorfields Eye Hospital, followed by higher specialist training across several leading ophthalmic units. He has served as an NHS Consultant since 2009 and recently completed an additional fellowship in complex cataract surgery in Jersey.

Mr Kumar is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the International Council of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the European Society of Retinal Specialists. He is also a GMC-recognised trainer, passionate about mentoring future ophthalmologists and supporting the development of allied health professionals. Above all, he is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care of the highest standard.
