About Dr Peysh Patel

Personal Profile

Dr Patel is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, a major quaternary referral centre and one of the largest teaching hospitals in England.

He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Master’s in Natural Sciences and completed a sub-internship at Harvard University. His postgraduate medical training was mainly based in Leeds, with additional observerships at Wythenshawe Hospital and Royal Papworth Hospital. He also completed a peri-CCT fellowship in complex cardiac devices.

Dr Patel provides comprehensive care for all aspects of adult cardiology. This includes the assessment and management of symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness, and dizziness. His specialist interests include cardiac devices (such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices), heart failure, cardio-oncology, and preventive cardiology. This includes managing cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

He has performed over 1,000 cardiac device implants and has advanced expertise in this field.

Dr Patel has a strong academic background. He holds a PhD in Medicine, funded by the British Heart Foundation, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education with Distinction. He is accredited in echocardiography by the British Society of Echocardiography (2016 and 2021) and holds international certification in cardiac devices (CCDS).

He has an active research portfolio with more than 100 publications and is the author of Cardiology at its Core, published internationally in 2023.

Alongside his clinical and academic work, Dr Patel plays an active role in national and international cardiology education. He is a member of the Education Committee of the British Cardiovascular Society and regularly lectures on cardiac rhythm management across the UK and Europe.

He also contributes to clinical governance as a member of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust clinical ethics group and works as a medicolegal expert.
