Bakhshayesh Personal Profile

Mr Bakhshayesh was an exceptional student scoring number 122 in Iranian National Exam and entered the most prestigious Medical University in Iran, Shiraz Medical School. He graduated with MD in 1996 and worked two years as an A&E doctor as part of his military service. He then left Iran in 1998 and studied a year of Philosophy, Economy and Politics in Berlin, Germany. 

In 1999, Mr Bakhshayesh moved to Sweden and started his core surgical training and higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics. From a very early start he showed interests in Foot and Ankle Surgery and became a Foot and Ankle consultant at the largest District General Hospital in Sweden, Vasteras Central Hospital. 

In 2011, the wave of poly-trauma and centralisation of care of critically ill patients started and Mr Bakhshayesh wanted to be a part of this. He went to Birmingham and became a fellow of Sir Professor Keith Porter with fellowships in Knee surgery, Foot and Ankle Surgery and Limb Reconstruction. 

Upon return to Sweden Mr Bakhshayesh worked in Vasteras Central Hospital where 50% of his practice was as a Complex Fracture Surgeon and 50% as Foot and Ankle Surgeon while also being head of the Foot and Ankle Surgery. 

Mr Bakhshayesh ran several courses as ATLS, AO courses, Foot and Ankle Cadaveric Courses, Definitive Surgical Trauma Care between 2012-2014. 

In 2014 Mr Bakhshayesh was headhunted to the prestigious Karolinska Institute which awards Noble Price in Medicine. He worked in a small group of experienced surgeons taking care of complex trauma cases for the population of greater Stockholm, here he was responsible for the care of all complex foot and ankle injuries. 

As the character of his job demanded he completed a fellowship in Pelvic and Acetabular surgery, he did so with Professor Pohlemann in Germany and completed local fellowships in spinal surgery. 

In 2018, Mr Bakhshayesh moved to the UK and completed a year of fellowship at Imperial college in Pelvic and Acetabular and Hip Surgery. He then completed another year of post-CCT fellowship at Royal London Hospital in Limb Reconstruction and Foot and Ankle Surgery. 

Mr Bakhshayesh, defended his PhD in 2020 and was appointed as a as Major Trauma Consultant and Foot and Ankle Specialist at Leeds General Infirmary in 2021 which is the second busiest major trauma centre in the UK, here he performs complex Foot and Ankle Trauma surgery. He also performs elective Foot and Ankle surgeries at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds.  

Mr Bakhshayesh is unique in his profession because of his wide exposure to complex trauma and his exposure to the entire body regions where he is getting inspired by translation of knowledge cross specialties as he has an in-depth knowledge of the biomechanics of the foot and ankle conditions. 

Mr Bakhshayesh is internationally highly respected with numerous publications in high ranked academic journals including publication in Nature, He is constantly learning and has several ongoing research projects.
