About Mr Petr Hanek

Personal Profile

Mr Hanek has been a general/colorectal/proctology surgeon for over 35 years. He graduated at Charles’ University, Prague, CZ after his primary medical training in June 1990.
Mr Hanek's postgraduate training took place firstly in DGH west from Prague. After completing (compulsory) military training he was appointed at University Hospital Prague – Na Bulovce where he continued his general surgery training.
Mr Hanek got attracted to abdominal surgery at that time. It, clearly, formed his future career.

He completed his postgraduate training in surgery in Nov 1998 and became Substantive Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at University Hospital Prague – Motol. Over the time he managed to consolidate a colorectal team which operated on 130 pts. / year/. Mr Hanek has been focusing mainly on treatment of bowel cancer.
In the busy high-profile University Hospital, Mr Hanek gained extensive experience in general surgery – inguinal hernia repair, incisional hernia repair, management of chronic perianal sepsis, haemorrhoids, fissures, fistulae and rectal prolapse.

In October 2004 Mr Hanek decided to pursue a new life challenge and moved to the UK. Where he was appointed as substantive General/Colorectal Surgeon at Dartford & Gravesham where he has worked until January 2024. During these years Mr Hanek had been intensively involved in management of colorectal cancer as well as general surgery and proctology (rectum & anus).
After 33 years spent in large either University or District Hospitals, approx. 3000 on-calls, 1500 operations for bowel cancer and approx.3000 lifesaving operations - Mr Hanek has decided to start to look after my patients exclusively in private sector.

Mr Hanek's sub-speciality of interest is Procto-surgery, treatment:

1/ Haemorrhoids , rectal bleeding , rectal prolaps
2/ Recurrent/ chronic perianal sepsis (boils, infections, fistulae..)
3/ Fissures
4/ Non-specific abdominal pain,  pelvic floor dysfunction

Mr Hanek continues his professional development by attending annual meetings of Association of Coloproctology, European Abdominal Wall reconstruction Symposium as well as UK and international meetings relevant to his professional interests. He wishes to be able to deliver my patients the most up to date care.
Mr Hanek currently practice at Chelsfield Park hospital, Blackheath Hospital, Sloane Hospital, and London Independent Hospital.
On a personal level, Mr Hanek is the 3rd generation of surgeon in his family. His grandfather and father both dedicated their lives to surgery in University Hospital in Prague. Sadly, they both died of bowel cancer. Mr Hanek said  ''I have been close to a medical and surgical environment since I can remember. Inevitably, I have absorbed the qualities which, I believe, a surgeon should possess. Honesty, integrity, professionalism, and care.Recently, I have developed skin cancer and become cancer patient myself. This experience brought me even closer to my patients. To understand worry, anxiety, endless waiting, doubt, and all other states of mind patients always go through. I always do my best to follow our family credo: “Treat every patient as if they were your mother.''
