Mr Tomlinson trained in the Bristol and Oxford regions of the UK and has worked with some of the world’s leading upper limb specialists. As part of his higher surgical specialisation he spent twelve months in the highly presitigious Sydney Upper Limb Unit in Australia. This unit, one of the largest in Australia, is a centre of excellence for a wide variety of complex conditions and surgical procedures. During this period he also worked closely with the Sydney Sports Injuries Clinic which is responsible for a number of professional teams including the Sydney Swans (Australian Rules Football League), Sydney Roosters (National Rugby League), and the Sydney Waratahs (National Rugby Union).
Mr Tomlinson has particular expertise in a broad range of upper limb surgical services which include joint replacement, keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery, dupuytren’s contracture, nerve compression (eg. Carpal tunnel syndrome), repetitive strain injuries, microsurgery, wrist instability and sports injuries. Surgery is undertaken via keyhole techniques where possible and over 99% of cases are carried out as a day case option. Alongside the Anaesthetic department he has recently developed a regional anaesthesia service whereby patients may have the option of surgery without the need for a full general anaesthetic.
As the local NHS Consultant he leads the Hand, Wrist and Elbow Unit at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester as well as providing an outpatient and surgical day case service to the Andover War Memorial Hospital. With the help of his team he maintains an active interest in teaching and research on upper limb disorders and has published a number of articles in the leading medical literature.
Above all, he believes strongly in delivering the highest level of personal, Consultant–led care to his local community.
