Background

Mr Dominic Dodd is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon based at Thornbury Hospital Sheffield. He qualified from the University of Manchester in 1989 and has worked as a Consultant in Sheffield in both NHS and private practice since 2002. Mr Dodd has developed a super-specialist interest in the management of venous disease. He performs a comprehensive range of endovenous and surgical procedures, and has over 25 years experience in the treatment of varicose veins, with over 15 years experience with endovenous treatment. Mr Dodd left NHS practice in 2017 to work full-time in the private sector. He sees around 400 new varicose veins patients a year and over the last 16 years has performed over 5000 endovenous treatments. Mr Dodd is committed to providing the highest quality of care and takes a holistic approach to the management of his patients.

Special interests

In 2004 Mr Dodd introduced endovenous treatment for varicose veins in South Yorkshire. He now performs around 450 endovenous thermal ablation procedures per year - both endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) and radiofrequency ablation (ClosureFast). In addition, Mr Dodd performs Venaseal and Clarivein, non-thermal techniques and open surgical treatment when needed. He also performs a large number of foam sclerotherapy and micro-sclerotherapy procedures. Mr Dodd also has an active medico-legal practice providing expert reports for both claimants’ and defendants’ solicitors on a whole range of vascular conditions.

Research and Publications
 
Mr Dodd was a principal investigator in the CLaSS trial and EVRA Study. These were major, multi-centre studies demonstrating the effectiveness of endovenous treatments for varicose veins.
 
Mr Dodd has taught vascular specialists from all over the UK and Europe in endovenous techniques.

 

In his spare time Mr Dodd enjoys photography, indoor-climbing in Sheffield’s great climbing centres and has recently qualified as a Private Pilot.
