Dr Beattie has been a Consultant in Glasgow since 2005 based mainly at the Royal Hospital for Children where she has been Clinical Lead since 2010, and at West Glasgow ACH, previously the Western Infirmary, for her adult Dermatology practice which since 2018 has focused mainly on eczema and its impact quality of life. Paula manages rashes including eczema, psoriasis, acne and connective tissue disease, sun provoked rashes and autoimmune disease of the skin and hair including alopecia areata, vitiligo and urticaria in all ages, as well as birthmarks and genetic skin conditions in children and adolescents. Please note that while she sees benign skin lesions and offers cryotherapy and steroid injections, she does not routinely offer skin surgery and those requiring removal of skin lesions should book with an alternative Dermatologist.
Dr Beattie is actively involved in skin research, conducting research trials of systemic therapies for eczema and nodular prurigo. She is widely published in peer reviewed journals, has written book chapters and is a regularly invited speaker at national and international meetings. She teaches students, medical colleagues and other health care professionals across Scotland and the UK.
Dr Beattie sits on the steering committee of the UK severe eczema registry and the Medical Advisory Board of the National Eczema Society. She is chair of the British Skin Foundation small Grants committee. Paula has been involved in the development of the NICE guidelines for management of food allergy in Children and the British Society for Paediatric Dermatology Guidelines for propranolol for the management of haemangiomas in Infants as well as local Atopic Eczema and other Paediatric Dermatology guidance.
