Dr Paul Foley is a consultant cardiologist at Circle Ridgeway Hospital, Wroughton. His NHS base is the Great Western Hospital Swindon, where he also participates in the emergency on call rota. He qualified from Bristol University in 1997 and gained membership of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2000. He trained in Brighton, London, Wessex and most recently in Birmingham. Dr Foley has completed specialist training and is accredited as a specialist in cardiology and general (internal) medicine.

In addition, Dr Foley is accredited by The British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) in adult trans-thoracic echocardiography and Heart Rhythm UK (HRUK - devices). He has passed the written examination of the European Heart Rhythm Association. Dr Foley has trained in cardiovascular magnetic resonance in Birmingham and also undertaken further training at Charite Hospital, Berlin and Leeds. He has contributed to 3 books and published 34 papers in peer reviewed journals. He has undertaken an approved advanced training fellowship in heart failure, cardiac resynchronisation pacing and cardiovascular magnetic resonance at Good Hope Hospital.

Dr Foley has undertaken research period study into device treatment of heart failure for which he was awarded the Harry Hollier Travelling Fellowship in 2008 and the 1st prize by the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in 2008. In 2019 he was elected to the council of the British Heart Rhythm Society, and was clinical lead for cardiology at The Great Western Hospital. He has now become involved in the Division of Medicine. Dr Foley’s interests include general adult cardiology, heart failure, modern cardiac imaging with echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance, heart rhythm disorders and complex cardiac pacing including cardiac resynchronisation and defibrillator therapy. He works closely with his cardiology colleagues and has an on-going interest in cardiology research, enjoying collaborating with colleagues and patients to advance learning. He has been involved in both device and pharmacology studies.
