His NHS base, King’s College Hospital, is one of the leading London teaching hospitals. He is involved in general cardiology, providing specialist care for a broad range of urgent heart problems. He delivers a weekly outpatient clinics at King’s College Hospital and a specialist clinic for people with heart rhythm problems at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley.

As well as contributing to general cardiology, Dr Scott delivers specialist care for patients with heart rhythm problems. These disorders span palpitations, heart failure and irregular heart rhythms caused by conditions like atrial fibrillation. Many of these problems need interventional treatment, including catheter ablation or cardiac pacemaker/defibrillator implantation. Dr Scott has undertaken over 1500 cardiac electrophysiology studies and ablations and implanted over 1000 pacemakers and other devices.

Dr Scott graduated in medicine with Honours from the University of Birmingham, also completing an honours BMedSci degree. His general medical training was based at Cambridge University Hospitals including Addenbrooke’s and the Regional Cardiothoracic Centre at Papworth hospital. His specialist general Cardiology training was based in Wessex; it included four years at the Wessex Cardiothoracic Unit in the University Hospital Southampton.

The final stage of his training spanned fellowships in cardiac rhythm disorders. The first fellowship, at University Hospital Southampton, incorporated research for a DM Doctorate. The second fellowship, at the internationally renowned cardiac rhythm unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, in the University of British Columbia on Vancouver Island. The unit, which provides specialised services throughout Western Canada, enabled Dr Scott to gain extensive practical experience dealing with cardiac rhythm problems. The third fellowship, at Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospitals in London, further expanded his experience across all cardiac rhythm disorders. Dr Scott joined the specialist register for Cardiology in 2012. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at King’s College Hospital in 2013.

Dr Scott has a strong track record in research. His medical doctorate (DM degree) on implantable cardiac defibrillators was awarded by the University of Southampton in 2012. He has published research papers in a wide variety of specialist journals. He has been the first or senior author in over 40 papers. He continues to perform and supervise research at King’s College Hospital, focussing on research to improve the quality of specialist care. He has been an invited speaker at international conferences and meetings across the United Kingdom and continental Europe. His research has been used in clinical guidelines which help patients receive optimal care.

Dr Scott continues to contribute to medical education. He is the Local Educational Faculty Lead for the King’s College London vascular block; cardiology is the main theme of this block. He organises the delivery of medical student teaching and, during term-time, teaches groups of medical students each week. His contributions toward teaching students was recognised by King’s College Hospital when he received a Medical Leadership award in 2019.

Dr Scott is passionate about delivering high-quality patient-centred care. He makes a comprehensive assessment of all patients and takes time explaining the tests and the treatments they are likely to need. He considers all treatment options, discusses each of them with patients, and makes certain patients feel fully informed and involved in all aspects of their care.
