Professor Paul Morris is a consultant cardiologist with more than 20 years’ NHS clinical experience. He has broad experience in general cardiology symptoms and problems, with particular expertise in the assessment and management of chest pain, coronary artery disease and related conditions. He is an interventional cardiologist and a specialist in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI, or ‘stenting’).

Professor Morris trained at Sheffield Medical School where he was awarded distinctions in every year of study and graduated top of his year. Since then, he has been awarded prestigious personal fellowships from the British Heart Foundation, Wellcome Trust, National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the British Cardiovascular Interventions Society (BCIS). His pioneering research continues at the University of Sheffield, where he leads projects developing novel approaches to diagnosing heart disease, designing new cardiac catheters, and collaborating with the RAF and UK Civil Aviation Authority to study the effects of spaceflight on the human body and inform medical guidelines for civilian space travel. Professor Morris is also a leading expert in wearable devices like smart watches and apps that monitor heart health.

Clinical Interests

General Cardiology care - includes the assessment, investigation, diagnosis and management of general cardiac conditions including coronary artery disease (patients with chest pain, angina, heart attack), valvular heart disease, palpitations, and breathlessness.

Procedures - Professor Morris performs coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI or ‘stenting’), including complex PCI and chronic total occlusion (CTO) PCI. Professor Morris performs >90% of his procedures via the radial (wrist) artery, which is associated with better outcomes for patients, due to reduced risk of serious complications. He also has a high rate of intracoronary physiology assessment and intracoronary imaging, which are techniques that improve decision making and improve outcomes in patients undergoing PCI.
