About Mr Parm Johal

Personal Profile

Mr Johal is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in knee surgery. His main NHS base is the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where he is the clinical lead for soft tissue knee surgery.

Mr Johal’s clinical interests comprise all aspects of knee conditions. This includes sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery, meniscal surgery, knee ligament surgery, partial and total knee replacements, patellofemoral arthritis and instability including medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction.

Mr Johal qualified from the Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, London, in 1994. He undertook his orthopaedic training in London working at many centres of excellence including University College Hospital London, the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

Additionally, he undertook specialist fellowship training in sports surgery and joint replacement at Sportsmed-SA in Adelaide, Australia, and also dedicated knee surgery fellowships at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol, and Guy's Hospital in London. Mr Johal was also awarded a prestigious European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics & Traumatology (EFORT) fellowship to the University of Leuven, Belgium.

Mr Johal has a strong background in research. He wrote his MD thesis on the kinematics of the knee joint. This work has been cited by many other researchers and also by major implant companies in relation to their more modern knee prosthesis designs. He has published extensively in scientific journals and has presented to learned societies at both national and international conferences.

Mr Johal lives in South Buckinghamshire with his wife, who is a consultant rheumatologist, and he enjoys spending much of his spare time with their young family.
