He studied medicine in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the prestigious Military School of Combat Officers and he graduated in 2005 as a Naval Medical Officer with a medical degree with honours.
In May 2023 and after a successful interview, Mr Pikoulas was appointed as the Clinical Lead for the Breast services in Royal Bolton Hospital. He has also been trained into applying Human Factors and he is a certified investigator for serious incidents within the Trust. Mr Pikoulas is actively involved in the training of the general surgical trainees and he is a recognised educational supervisor as per GMC guidance.
Clinical Interests
His specialist interest lies exclusively in the management of benign and malignant breast disease, as well as breast-related problems. He specialises in breast cancer care, breast-conserving surgery including oncoplastic techniques and therapeutic mammoplasties, breast reconstruction (implant-based and autologous), partial breast reconstruction with local artery perforator flaps, lipomodelling, symmetrising surgery, aesthetic breast surgery, revisional breast surgery, and surgery for benign breast disease.
He has been awarded a Diploma in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery from the University of East Anglia — one of the highest qualifications for breast surgeons in Europe.
Mr Pikoulas also has a specialist interest in nipple and areola tattooing, having been trained at one of the most reputable medical tattooing centres in the United Kingdom. He has successfully implemented this service at the Royal Bolton Hospital, where he runs it with outstanding feedback from his patients.
