About Mr Panas Symeonides

Personal Profile

Mr Symeonides is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He works in private practice at Thornbury Hospital, Sheffield and offers adult and paediatric ENT services.

He was awarded his medical degree at the University of Sheffield in 2007 (MBChB with distinction). He trained in the NHS, rotating through busy tertiary referral centres and completed his ENT specialty at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, England and achieved the post-graduate qualifications of MRCS, DOHNS and FRCS. He was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from Athens and has been on the GMC's Specialist Register for ENT Consultant since 2016. In August 2017, he completed a one-year post-CCT Fellowship in Advanced Rhinology & Endoscopic Anterior Skull Base Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. During this time, he enhanced his surgical exposure to high volume and high complexity procedures, developing exceptional surgical skills and mastering the art of rhinoplasty (nose job), endoscopic DCR (tear sac surgery), endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) including complex frontal sinus pathology (Draf 3 procedure), endoscopic resection of pituitary tumours and repair of CSF leaks, amongst other routine and emergency ENT operations.

Following his Fellowship, he worked in private practice abroad, before permanently retuning to the UK and being employed by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. His NHS work involves the management of adult and paediatric patients, focusing on Rhinology. He is a core member of the Regional Anterior Skull Base Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). He pioneered performing minimally invasive procedures under local anaesthetic and runs the in-office balloon sinuplasty clinic to treat early sinus disease.

Mr Symeonides is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds and is on the faculty of numerous regional and national ENT courses. He teaches on relevant sub-specialty courses like the Sheffield FESS & Facial Plastics Course and the Leeds Endoscopic Anterior Skull Base Surgery: Hands-on Cadaveric course.
