Following his medical degree in Southampton, Mr Allenby-Smith focused his career around upper gastrointestinal surgery. Training across the south coast specialist centres, he focussed on laparoscopic surgery for a range of conditions. During his final year training in Southampton he further developed skills in the laparoscopic management of oesophageal cancer and bariatric (weight loss) surgery. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2010 and started as a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon in Poole Hospital in 2011. After a couple of years he was appointed as Clerkship Director and Assistant Professor at St George’s University, Grenada.
Mr Allenby-Smith has set up a specialist clinic in Poole treating patients with acid reflux and heartburn. Often this may be treated with medications but he also offers a new day case treatment called Stretta. Other patients may benefit from fundoplication surgery to prevent their reflux. Mr Allenby-Smith performs a range of treatments for Gall Stones from endoscopic treatment (ERCP) to laparoscopic surgery to remove the Gall Bladder (cholecystectomy).
