Ms Nivedita Das is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with specialist interests in Gynaecology Cancer services, Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy, and Advanced Labour Ward Practice. She is currently the Gynaecology Cancer Lead for the Trust and serves as Deputy Colposcopy Lead, playing a central role in the development and delivery of women’s health and cancer services. She is also an active member of the regional Gynaecological Oncology Multidisciplinary Team, contributing to the management of complex cancer cases across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands.

Dr Das graduated from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, India, in 2003. Following her move to the United Kingdom, she completed Foundation Training in the Oxford Deanery before pursuing a career in General Surgery. She undertook Core Surgical Training and higher surgical training posts across several NHS hospitals and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) in 2010. After gaining extensive experience as a Surgical Registrar in General, Breast and Colorectal Surgery, she transitioned to Obstetrics and Gynaecology and entered the East Midlands run-through training programme in 2014. She achieved Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2018 and completed her specialist training in 2022, subsequently being appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

Her background in General Surgery has provided a strong foundation in operative and perioperative care, contributing significantly to her surgical expertise within gynaecology. Dr Das performs both open and minimally invasive procedures and has particular expertise in the management of gynaecological cancers, cervical pathology, outpatient and operative hysteroscopy, and complex benign gynaecological conditions. Her clinical responsibilities include cancer pathway leadership, two-week-wait triage, specialist oncology clinics, major surgery, colposcopy services, hysteroscopy clinics, emergency gynaecology care, antenatal care, caesarean delivery, and consultant labour ward practice.

Dr Das is deeply committed to education and professional development within the NHS. She is an Educational Supervisor for both specialty trainees and Foundation doctors and is actively involved in workplace-based assessments, mentoring and trainee development. She serves as faculty for the RCOG ROBuST programme and MRCOG Part 3 revision courses and contributes regularly to regional teaching across the East Midlands Deanery. She is an examiner for the BSCCP Colposcopy OSCE and MRCOG Part 3 examinations and has also examined undergraduate medical students at the University of Nottingham.

Alongside her clinical and educational roles, Dr Das has an established interest in research, quality improvement and clinical governance. She has led and contributed to numerous audits and service improvement projects in gynaecological oncology, colposcopy and women’s health. She has presented at national and international conferences, including RCOG, BSCCP, BGCS, BSGE and ESGO meetings.

Dr Das is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while advancing clinical services through innovation, education and multidisciplinary collaboration. She remains committed to developing gynaecological oncology services, enhancing minimally invasive and hysteroscopic surgery, and supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals through teaching, mentorship and leadership.
