Personal Profile

Dr Gangil is a senior consultant cardiologist with over 13 years of experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. He specialises in minimally invasive (keyhole) heart procedures, including advanced treatments for heart valve disease and complex coronary artery disease.

He is an expert in catheter-based interventions, helping patients access advanced treatments that may offer alternatives to traditional open-heart surgery.

Dr Gangil specialises in:

  • Heart valve disease, including aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, mitral regurgitation, mitral stenosis and paravalvular leaks
  • Structural heart interventions, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER/MitraClip)
  • Coronary artery disease, including the treatment of narrowed heart arteries, angina and heart attacks

Complex coronary interventions, including rotational atherectomy (calcium debulking), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT)

Dr Gangil is one of the few cardiologists in the region offering advanced calcium-removal angioplasty techniques for patients with heavily calcified coronary arteries.

Dr Gangil established and leads the Transcatheter Mitral Valve Service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust, providing patients with access to innovative minimally invasive treatments for mitral valve disease. He also serves as Cardiology Governance Lead at UHCW, supporting high standards of quality, safety and patient-centred care.

After completing his cardiology training in India, Dr Gangil undertook two prestigious international fellowships to further develop his expertise in complex cardiac procedures.

Dr Gangil has been a consultant cardiologist at UHCW NHS Trust since 2020. Dr Gangil has introduced several pioneering cardiac treatments across Coventry and Warwickshire, including:

  • UK first: Performed a fully percutaneous (keyhole) simultaneous transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement procedure without the need for general anaesthesia. This achievement was featured in The Mirror.
  • First in Coventry and Warwickshire: Introduced Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR), offering patients a minimally invasive alternative to traditional mitral valve surgery.
