Dr Stubbings is a general practitioner and football team doctor with a special interest in sport and exercise medicine, as well as musculoskeletal (MSK) injury.
He first trained as a pharmacist, graduating from the London School of Pharmacy in 2007, and worked as a clinical pharmacist in renal and critical care. He then went on to study medicine at the University of Leicester, graduating in 2016. As a senior medical student, he was invited to the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School for his elective to study sports medicine and orthopaedics, this sparked a lifelong passion for the field.
Dr Stubbings then completed foundation training in Scotland, worked as a medical demonstrator for a year at the University of St Andrews School of Medicine, and then undertook GP specialty training, which he completed in Nottingham in 2022. Throughout his training he has gained experience in acute medicine, cardiology, respiratory, orthopaedics, neonatal medicine, brain injury rehabilitation, emergency medicine, and obstetrics and gynaecology.
Dr Stubbings developed his interest in sport, exercise and MSK medicine through attending courses in joint injection, pitch side medicine qualification, vascular access ultrasound and completing an MSK diploma. He is also currently undertaking a masters in sport and exercise medicine.
He has worked as a pitch side doctor for numerous football and rugby clubs and has previously served as team doctor for the Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club and the London City Lionesses Football Club. He is the currently the team doctor for Colchester United Football Club.
Dr Stubbings enjoys taking time to ensure his patients feel heard and understood. His patient-centred approach ensures that the care he provides is not only evidence-based, but also holistic and tailored to each individual.
