Mr Greaves qualified as a doctor from the University of Bristol in 2006. He immediately pursued a career in surgery completing core surgical training in the West Midlands before gaining a higher surgical training number in the North-West in 2011. During higher training, he took time out of programme to complete a PhD at the University of Manchester in 2015, investigating the use of skin substitutes in wound healing resulting in multiple conference presentations and peer reviewed publications. Mr Greaves then returned to higher surgical training and gained his certificate of completion of training (CCT) and joined the GMC specialist register in 2019. He was awarded the Slaney Medal for best performance in the 2018 FRCS Vascular exit examination. Mr Greaves was appointed as a substantive Consultant in Vascular Surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary in April 2020 where he continues to work. He has become a key member and leader within this expanding vascular unit taking on clinical lead and operational management roles alongside his clinical work. Mr. Greaves is an outstanding clinician and surgeon, who runs a high-volume arterial and venous service spanning two hospital sites. He is proficient in both elective and emergency vascular services, including varicose vein surgery, peripheral artery disease, aneurysm management, stroke management, cardiovascular risk assessment and thoracic outlet syndrome. He is experienced in emergency and trauma surgery as well as in assisting other specialist services including cardiology, cardiothoracics and general surgery with complex operations or managing vascular complications. Mr Greaves is an experienced surgical trainer supervising numerous core and surgical higher trainees. He has maintained a research interest and is co-supervisor to PhD students investigating the prevalence and significance of antiplatelet resistance in the vascular population. He has recently applied to become an examiner for the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations.

Mr Greaves specialises in open and hybrid vascular surgery working in close association with vascular interventional radiology. He is only one of 2 surgeons in the region offering 1st rib resection surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome

 

Clinical Interests:

Areas of clinical interest include carotid and aortic disease as well as surgical management of peripheral vascular disease.
