Dr Natalia Nedelkopoulou is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and undertakes private consultations at Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield. She has been a Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology since 2017 and has extensive experience in the assessment and management of gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic conditions in children and young people.

She has a particular specialist interest in paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). More recently, she undertook advanced fellowship training in IBD at Boston Children’s Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, further developing her expertise in the management of children and young people with IBD, including complex and challenging cases. Dr Nedelkopoulou also leads the Paediatric Hepatology Service and Transnasal Endoscopy programme at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

She graduated in Medicine from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and completed her training in Paediatrics at Ippokrateio University Hospital in Thessaloniki. Following her move to the UK, she undertook specialist training in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at King’s College Hospital, London, and Sheffield Children’s Hospital, before taking up her consultant appointment in Sheffield.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Nedelkopoulou has an established academic and research career. She was awarded her doctorate by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the highest distinction of “Excellent”. Her research team received an international award recognising the quality of their research into the immunological mechanisms involved in food allergy in children. She has published extensively in the field of Paediatric Gastroenterology and has contributed to national and international research collaborations.

Dr Nedelkopoulou is also actively involved in medical education and specialist training. Since 2017, she has contributed to national paediatric endoscopy training courses in Sheffield and to endoscopy education at the annual meetings of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN). She has also contributed to mentoring and supporting the development of medical students and early-career healthcare professionals.

Recognising the impact that gastrointestinal and liver conditions can have on children and their families, Dr Nedelkopoulou provides personalised, family-centred care. She works closely with each family to understand their individual needs and develop a considered approach to diagnosis and treatment, informed by the latest evidence and specialist expertise.
