Personal Profile

Mr Naren Garneti is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with his NHS practice at Rotherham General Hospital, and private practice at Thornbury Hospital, Sheffield.

He has a special interest in hip and knee surgery. His sub-specialist interests include primary and revision hip and knee replacements, partial knee replacements, knee arthroscopy and management of peri-prosthetic fractures. He specialises in complex lower limb trauma and general trauma in his NHS practice.

Mr Garneti trained at Leeds on the Yorkshire Higher Surgical training programme. He underwent sub-specialty double Fellowship training in Advanced Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Arthroplasty in New Zealand and Bristol. His Fellowship in New Zealand was under the direction of Professor Jean-Claude Theis (past President of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons), Mr John Matheson (past President of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association) and Mr David Gwynne-Jones. Mr Garneti's Fellowship at Bristol was supervised by Professor Gordon Bannister (past President of the British Hip Society), Professor Ian D Lear-Month (past President of the European Hip Society), Professor Ashley Blom and Mr Jason Webb.

He has visited several centres of excellence in the US and Belfast (Mr David Beverland) to enhance his knowledge of hip and knee replacement surgery.

Mr Garneti was the lead for metal on metal hip replacements and resurfacing at Rotherham General Hospital.

Mr Garneti is active in research and has presented at international, national and regional meetings. He has several publications to his credit.

Education is an important part of his curriculum; he is engaged in teaching and training the Registrars and Middle Grades at Rotherham General Hospital. He set up a Fellowship programme in Lower Limb Arthroplasty and the Upper Limb Fracture Fixation course at Rotherham General Hospital. In addition to being a faculty member on local courses, he is the Convener of South Yorkshire Orthopaedic courses. Mr Garneti has successfully organised the Instructional Hip courses, Instructional Knee courses, Instructional Trauma courses, Fracture Neck of Femur courses and the Basic Sciences course for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) courses over the past several years.
