Having become a doctor in 1999, she then went on to become a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003. Dr Usmani started her training in Dermatology in 2004 before completing in 2008. During her training she gained a thorough understanding of dermatological conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin allergy and skin cancer. Other than treating these conditions medically, Dr Usmani is also qualified to perform skin surgery and has performed over 1,500 skin surgery procedures. She regularly performs audits of her own work to ensure quality and safety in the services that she delivers. She is also an audit lead.
Over the past 5 years, Dr Usmani has developed a specialist clinic in skin allergy and patch testing, offering services to a large part of West Yorkshire. As well as a thorough understanding of the anatomy, physiology and treatment of skin diseases, she also has an interest in facial rejuvenation techniques and has completed certified training in the use of anti wrinkle injections (muscle relaxing injections). Dr Usmani has also completed courses for basic and advanced techniques in the use of dermal fillers for the purpose of cheek fillers, lip fillers and treatment of nose to mouth lines as well as the downturned mouth.
She takes an active role in education, teaching both trainees in Dermatology, junior doctors and medical students. She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Leeds University Medical School where, other than examining students, she also provides a pastoral role in mentoring students and guiding them through their early years at university. Dr Usmani is well published in international Dermatology literature.
