Dr Muhammad Yaqub is a Consultant Paediatrician at Hamsphire Clinic, with more than seven years of consultant experience with a special interest in paediatric allergy. He holds a substantive consultant post in Basingstoke and North Hampshire. His practice covers general paediatrics, neonatal care and paediatric allergy.
Dr Yaqub qualified in medicine in 2004 and completed the UK Foundation Programme in the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery before undertaking paediatric specialty training in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training in Paediatrics in October 2018 and is on the GMC Specialist Register.
His specialist training included Level 3 neonatal intensive care, tertiary paediatric intensive care at King's College Hospital in London, and paediatric endocrinology at Evelina London Children's Hospital. He also gained experience in community paediatrics and acute general paediatrics across a range of district general and teaching hospitals.
General paediatrics is at the heart of Dr Yaqub's practice. In his NHS role, he sees children of all ages with both acute and ongoing conditions, as well as providing neonatal care and follow-up. He also provides a consultant advice and guidance service, giving local GPs rapid access to specialist paediatric advice.
Dr Yaqub's special interest is paediatric allergy, particularly eczema, food allergy including cow's milk protein allergy, and allergic rhinitis and hay fever. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Allergy from Imperial College London and runs dedicated allergy clinics within his NHS role. He also takes part in the monthly paediatric allergy multidisciplinary team meeting and contributes to the development of paediatric allergy services across North Hampshire.
At The Hampshire Clinic, Dr Yaqub offers outpatient assessment and consultation for children and young people from birth to 18 years. He assesses a wide range of general paediatric conditions, including growth and feeding concerns, recurrent infections, wheeze and cough, abdominal symptoms, headaches, rashes and developmental concerns. He also offers assessment for paediatric allergy, skin prick testing where clinically indicated, and adrenaline auto-injector training for families who need it.
Dr Yaqub has a strong interest in clinical governance, service development and teaching. He is the departmental lead for digital transformation and contributes to the development of electronic patient records.
He is a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for paediatric trainees and has completed formal training in educational supervision through the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. He also teaches junior doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physician associates and medical students. He holds current Advanced Paediatric Life Support and Newborn Life Support certification, as well as Level 3 safeguarding children training.
Dr Yaqub takes a calm, thorough and family-centred approach to care. He places particular importance on making sure parents understand their child's condition and leave with a clear written plan they can follow at home, nursery or school. This is particularly important when managing allergies, where confidence in day-to-day care is an important part of supporting children and their families.
