Personal Profile

Mr Muhammad Iftikhar is an experienced consultant Gynaecologist specialising in transvaginal ultrasound, chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, urodynamics (female urinary incontinence) and postmenopausal bleeding.  He qualified in 1979 and completed his training as a Gynaecologist & Obstetrician in Northern Ireland and was appointed as a Consultant in Dorchester in 1993.

Over the last 27 years he has acquired vast experience of women’s health and in particular, gynaecological surgery and has pioneered the use of the following in West Dorset; advanced laparoscopic surgery to develop a comprehensive list of procedures through keyhole surgery including laparoscopic hysterectomy, TVT sling operation for the treatment of female urinary incontinence, and endometrial ablation techniques for the treatment of menorrhagia (heavy periods).  Mr Iftikhar is a recognised trainer at National and International level for the TVT (obturator) sling operation technique.

He has also developed a special interest in pelvic floor prolapse surgery, with or without the use of mesh implants including sacrospinous fixation.

Mr Iftikhar was also the Gynaecology Cancer Lead in West Dorset until 2019.

Mr Iftikhar holds an outpatients clinic at The Winterbourne Hospital for people experiencing pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, menopausal problems, prolapse, hysterectomy, vaginal pain, cancer, early cancer detecting, sterilisation, ovarian cysts, cramping, key-hole surgery, heavy periods, discomfort.
