About Mr Momin Malik

Personal Profile

Momin Malik completed higher surgical training in General Surgery before commencing sub-specialist training in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in Aberdeen in 2010. Following the award of FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, he had further training at high volume hepatobiliary units in Manchester and Newcastle. In addition to general and liver and pancreas surgery, he developed an interest in advanced laparoscopic techniques. He attended fellowships in Single Port keyhole surgery in Salzburg, Austria, and at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guilford. He was also a researcher and lead author for the SCARLESS trial, studying appendicectomy via single keyhole (scarless) surgery. He was appointed consultant in 2016, and currently works as a consultant general and hepatobiliary surgeon at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Momin’s current practice includes a variety of General Surgical procedures, including open and laparoscopic repair of ventral, inguinal and femoral hernias. He maintains a special interest in surgery for benign and malignant conditions of the liver, pancreas and gallbladder. He has an interest in laparoscopic cholecystectomy as well as laparoscopic bile duct exploration for gallstones, and has promoted the use of intra-operative ultrasound scans within his department.

Mr Malik is an honorary clinical lecturer, tutor and examiner for undergraduate students from the University of Aberdeen Medical School. He is faculty on a number of surgical courses with the Royal Colleges of Surgeons including ATLS and the Cadaveric Open Abdominal Surgery course. He is an examiner for the MRCS OSCE Exam. He also represents his Health Board on the hernia surgery panel at the Scottish Centre for Sustainable Delivery. He also has an academic and research interest in Human Factors and their role in safety and outcomes in surgery.
