Mr Mohammed Bahgat is an ENT Consultant at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. He sees NHS, self-paying and privately insured patients.

He is also an ENT Consultant at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. He has a super-speciality interest in advanced sinus surgery and facial plastic surgery. He completed his registrar training in the North East region, including rotations in:

He furthered his expertise by visiting the world's largest skull base centres at UPMC in Pittsburgh, USA, and Varese, Italy. During these visits, he learned from leading endoscopic sinus and skull base surgeons globally.

Mr Bahgat regularly performs functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) with a particular focus on the management of revision and advanced cases. This includes:

  • Frontal sinus pathology
  • Benign and malignant tumours of the nasal cavities
  • Fungal rhinosinusitis
  • Endoscopic repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks

He works regularly with colleagues in neurosurgery on pituitary and skull base surgeries and is a regular member of both pituitary and skull base multi-disciplinary meetings. He works with chest physicians to optimise nasal symptoms in patients with uncontrolled asthma or COPD.

Mr Bahgat has been invited as a faculty member in the national advanced sinus surgery cadaveric course, and the annual international facial plastic surgery course.

He has worked extensively with GP's lecturing in local educational meetings. He has delivered multiple presentations on the diagnosis and management of different ENT conditions, including allergic rhinitis (hayfever) with the use of allergy testing for better control of the condition.

Research

Mr Bahgat has a keen interest in research. He dedicated over a year to a full-time research position in Wales before commencing his registrar training. His research focused on investigating the quality of life and swallowing outcomes following various treatment modalities for head and neck cancers. This included surgery and/or chemoradiotherapy. The findings were presented at multiple international conferences. He has over 20 research papers published in international journals in the field of ENT.
