About Professor Mohammad Bari

Personal Profile

Professor Bari is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in all aspects of knee surgery and  primary hip replacement, including robotic arm assisted hip and knee surgery. His NHS practice is based at Tameside General Hospital near Manchester.

His knee practice covers all aspects of knee surgery, from sports injuries to arthritis of the knee. He performs arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, cruciate ligament reconstruction and both total and partial knee replacements. His specialist areas of interest include cruciate ligament injuries, cartilage injuries, osteochondral defect resurfacing and tendinopathies around the knee.

Professor Bari graduated from Calcutta and started post-graduate training in England in 1990; he had extensive training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the UK. His specialist interest has always been the practice of knee surgery and joint replacements.

Professor Bari is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a member of The British Association for Surgery of the Knee, The British Orthopaedic Association, American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and founder member of The British Indian Orthopaedic Society (BIOS). Throughout his career, he has regularly been involved in research, audit and teaching. He has presented his research in publications and at national and international meetings.

At Tameside, he has been the Audit Lead and contributed to the improvement of elective services. Professor Bari is a Royal College Examiner and Royal College Tutor. He trains orthopaedic specialist registrars from the North West deanery.

He has been regularly appraised and revalidated.
