Personal Profile

Mr Mohamed Mussa is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in advanced hip and knee surgery, including primary joint replacement, complex revision procedures, and robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery.

He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in Essex and Chelmsford before progressing through the Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Programme. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (Trauma & Orthopaedics) in 2021 and achieved his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2022.

To further develop his expertise in complex joint reconstruction, Mr Mussa undertook a prestigious lower limb arthroplasty fellowship at University Hospital Coventry and a visiting fellowship at the internationally renowned ENDO-Klinik Hamburg, Germany, one of Europe’s leading centres for complex revision hip and knee surgery.

His clinical practice includes primary hip and knee replacement surgery, complex revision hip and knee arthroplasty, periprosthetic fracture management, and the treatment of prosthetic joint infections. He is fully certified in robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery and has performed over 100 robotic cases. He also offers day-case hip and knee replacement for suitable patients and played a key role in developing day-case joint replacement pathways within his NHS Trust to improve recovery times and patient outcomes.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Mussa holds leadership roles as Trauma Lead and Surgical Site Infection Lead, supporting high standards of patient safety, governance, and surgical excellence. He is actively involved in international research collaborations, including multi-centre studies with ENDO-Klinik Hamburg, and has published in peer-reviewed journals while regularly presenting at international conferences on robotic surgery and innovation in joint replacement. His work was recognised with the Naughton Dunn Award for Best Podium Presentation in the West Midlands (2018).
