Having qualified in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, her postgraduate training resulted in an MSc and PhD in Multiple Sclerosis. Dr Mavra was a Clinical and Research fellow for five years at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London with professors McDonald and EJ Thompson. She worked as an Associate Professor of Neurology at the School of Medicine in Belgrade and was the Head of Neurology and Associate Professor of Neurology in Kuwait.
Dr Mavra has been working in the UK since 1997, working in the NHS at the Royal County Surrey Hospital and East Surrey Hospital. For 10 years she has worked as a full time Consultant Neurologist at Southend University Hospital and the Royal London Hospital until February 2012. She was awarded two Clinical Excellence Awards and a special Staff Achievement Award for developing the Rapid Access Epilepsy Clinic at Southend Hospital, which is the first clinic of its kind in the South Eastern Region of the NHS to include special care of epilepsy in pregnancy.
Dr Mavra has carried out extensive research and has 77 publications and seven published audits.
