About Dr Mihai Gherghe

Personal Profile

As a laparoscopic and minimally invasive Gynaecological Surgeon, Dr Mihai Gherghe has dedicated his career to advancing women’s health and improving surgical standards through innovation and education.

Dr Gherghe has recently completed the prestigious International Master’s in Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery at the University of Bologna (2023–2024), further enhancing his expertise in the latest surgical techniques. This training has reinforced his proficiency in laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, advanced hysteroscopy, and complex pelvic surgeries, expanding his experience in minimally invasive gynaecology.

Dr Gherghe is committed to training the next generation of surgeons. He is leading and innovating as Course Director for multiple laparoscopic and hysteroscopic training programs in West of Scotland. As an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, he actively mentors trainees.

In his role with NHS Lanarkshire, Dr Gherghe has introduced several new practices such as a Same Day Hysterectomy Pathway, which has revolutionised recovery for women undergoing minimally invasive hysterectomy. Additionally, he has led the development of outpatient hysteroscopy services, achieving a 70% reduction in theatre procedures and enhancing patient care. 

Dr Gherghe is actively involved in service development and research. As Principal Investigator of the EsPRiT2 trial and contributor to numerous national and international conferences, his work continues to shape the future of gynaecological care. He is a member of key professional organizations, including the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) and the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE).

Patient-centered care is at the core of Dr Gherghe’s practice. He has been instrumental in establishing robust governance structures to standardise the management of endometriosis and benign gynaecological conditions. His collaborative approach ensures that patients are empowered to make informed decisions about their treatment, aligning with best practices and national guidelines.
