Personal Profile

Mr Michael Mullen is a UK and international fellowship trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, with his NHS practice based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, specialising in knee surgery. 

Graduating from the University of Glasgow in 2000, Mr Mullen went on to train as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in the West of Scotland and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2011.

After completing surgical training, Mr Mullen further enhanced his skills and expertise through international fellowship training in Melbourne, Australia. 
He was successful in gaining the prestigious Melbourne Knee Fellowship, providing further experience and training in all aspects of knee surgery. He followed this with a fellowship in trauma surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital Major Trauma Centre, furthering his understanding and skills in complex lower limb trauma. 

Mr Mullen was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, in 2014, moving to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in 2015 as a Specialist Knee and Trauma Surgeon. 

Mr Mullen performs primary and complex primary total knee replacements (high volume), partial knee replacements and revision (redo) knee replacements, as well as arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery, ligament reconstruction and patellar stabilisation procedures. 

Mr Mullen is holistic in his approach, considering and utilising rehabilitation based, conservative and surgical treatment strategies. He provides individualised, evidence-based, treatments for all knee conditions to reach the best outcome, with patient-centred decision making at each stage of the journey. 

In Mr Mullen's spare time he enjoys cycling, golf and spending time with his wife and young family.
