Her academic journey began at Manchester University, where she earned her medical degree. Following her graduation, Dr Bouchard completed her postgraduate training in the North West Deanery, gaining invaluable experience across multiple healthcare settings. Her dedication to cardiology led her to further her training internationally in Switzerland, where she honed her skills in the renowned medical institutions of Lausanne and Geneva. This international exposure enriched her clinical expertise and provided her with a broader perspective on global healthcare practices.
Dr Bouchard's career trajectory took a significant leap when she sub-specialised in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) at The Royal Brompton Hospital in London, one of the leading centres for cardiology in the world. During her time there, she made notable contributions to the field, including publishing research in the prestigious European Heart Journal. Her work was also recognised at the European Society of Cardiology Conference, where she presented her findings to an international audience of peers and experts.
In addition to her clinical and research achievements, Dr Bouchard played a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic, working on the Intensive Care Unit at The Royal Brompton. Her experience in this high-pressure environment not only underscored her clinical acumen but also deepened her commitment to patient care, particularly in times of crisis. Following this, she pursued a Master’s degree in Medical Education at University College London, graduating with distinction. This advanced training in medical education reflects her passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of cardiologists.
Dr Bouchard is an active member of several prestigious professional organisations, including the British Cardiac Society (BCS), the British Congenital Cardiac Association (BCCA), the Working Group on ACHD at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), and the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE). Her leadership skills are evidenced by her election to the BCS Medical Education Committee and her role as the regional representative for Women in Cardiology (WiC) in Yorkshire. Furthermore, her selection as one of the 11 British candidates for the inaugural Franco-British leadership programme, an initiative launched by Prime Minister David Cameron and President François Hollande, highlights her recognition as a leader in her field.
Committed to advancing the education of cardiology trainees, Dr Bouchard founded the ACHD Hive, a national educational platform dedicated to teaching adult congenital heart disease. This initiative underscores her dedication to improving the standards of care in cardiology through education and knowledge sharing.
In her current practice, Dr Bouchard specialises in general cardiology, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with various cardiac symptoms, including chest pains (angina), shortness of breath, light-headedness, and palpitations. She also treats complex conditions such as arrhythmia, heart failure, and congenital heart defects. Dr Bouchard is particularly focused on identifying and mitigating cardiac risk factors, such as obesity, smoking, poor diet, diabetes, hypercholesterolaemia, and hypertension. She has experience in managing high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which are critical in preventing heart attacks and vascular disease.
Dr Bouchard’s expertise also extends to advising on procedures such as angioplasty, echocardiography and non-invasive functional scans, which can be vital in treating coronary artery disease.
