Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Pelvic Health

About Mel Prynne

Personal Profile

Mel is a Chartered physiotherapist with 36 years of experience. She completed her physiotherapy training at St. Thomas's Hospital, London, and her junior rotational training at King's college Hospital , London. Specialising in respiratory physiotherapy, Mel worked at The London Chest Hospital and the Royal London on the Intensive care unit and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Unit.

Mel was the lead respiratory physiotherapist at the Hammersmith Hospital, heading the surgical and medical wards and the Intensive Care Unit and it was during her time at the Hammersmith Hospital that she became aware of the work of Margie Polden, who was the Women's Health lead as well as a world-renowned name in the field of Pelvic Health. A seed was  planted which grew into Mel’s passion for the work she does now.

Mel moved to Guildford in 1997 and joined the physio team at Mount Alvernia working on the wards, doing general surgical and medical physiotherapy. In 2010, Mel followed her ambition to specialise in Pelvic Health, completing many courses, which covered female urinary dysfunction, bowel dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, physiotherapy in the childbearing year, Mummy MOT, Fitback and Bumps, Sacroiliac joint and pelvis to name a few.

She works with women for all Pelvic health issues, including urinary incontinence, bowel dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic pain . She works with women in the childbearing year tackling pregnancy related musculoskeletal issues such as Pelvic Girdle pain as well as bladder or bowel dysfunction.

Mel has a developing interest in the Menopause and the many effects of hormonal changes during all stages in a woman's life. Having had her own children, she became aware of the terrific value of first class Women's Health physiotherapy. A woman may have put up with a problem for very many years and been too embarrassed to seek help. The process of gaining a woman's trust and empowering her to make positive changes is something Mel values very highly and considers a very great privilege.

She has 3 adult children, enjoys keeping fit and does a lot of walking, often listening to podcast, or an audio book.  Mel enjoys  gardening, DIY and drawing. She is thoroughly enjoying helping her older children set up homes of their own with their partners.
