Mr Zekry specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of both common and complex disorders affecting the upper limb. His expertise includes hand, wrist and elbow surgery, fracture management, joint replacement, arthroscopy, joint fusion procedures, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s disease, cubital tunnel syndrome, sports injuries, and traumatic hand and wrist injuries. Whether treating a longstanding condition or an acute injury, he works closely with patients to develop tailored treatment plans that support the best possible outcomes and recovery.

Committed to delivering innovative and minimally invasive care whenever appropriate, Mr Zekry is highly experienced in Wide Awake Local Anaesthesia No Tourniquet (WALANT) surgery. This advanced technique enables many hand and wrist procedures to be performed without general or regional anaesthesia, helping to improve patient comfort, reduce recovery times, and allow faster return to everyday activities.

Mr Zekry completed his higher specialist orthopaedic training within the Birmingham University Hospitals training programme before undertaking prestigious fellowships in complex upper limb trauma and hand surgery at King’s College London. He gained extensive experience managing complex injuries and reconstructive surgery, further refining his specialist expertise in hand and wrist conditions.

Before moving to the United Kingdom, Mr Zekry spent almost ten years working at a major supra-regional trauma centre in Dubai, treating patients with severe injuries and complex fractures. During this time, he was also appointed Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at Dubai Medical College, reflecting his passion for education and clinical excellence.

His professional achievements include obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2016 and the prestigious Diploma in Hand Surgeryfrom the European Board of Hand Surgery in 2021.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Zekry remains actively involved in teaching, training and research. He regularly teaches hand surgery on national training courses for orthopaedic surgeons preparing for specialist examinations and has contributed to educational publications, including authoring the hand and wrist chapter in Concise Orthopaedic Notes for FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedic). He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at both national and international conferences.

Mr Zekry previously served as a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and currently holds a consultant position at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he is Clinical Governance Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics. He is also a member of the Trust’s Quality and Safety Panel for Surgical Specialties, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care, safety and clinical excellence.

"I wanted to take the time to write to you following my recent CMC joint injection to thank you for the care you gave me, both during the procedure and throughout my consultations with you.

From my very first appointment with you, I had such a positive experience. You listened to my concerns, welcomed my questions and made me feel genuinely involved in decisions about my treatment. I really appreciated the way you took what I was saying into account while also giving me your professional advice and helping me understand the options available to me.

Having previously had a very different experience with the same procedure, I came into my appointment with you feeling quite apprehensive. From our first consultation, however, I immediately felt comfortable enough to ask for my care to be transferred to you, and I am extremely glad that I did.

I particularly appreciated how supportive you were when I told you on the day of the procedure that I had decided not to have my left hand injected. You respected that decision completely and reassured me that if anything changed, I could contact you and we could revisit it. That may seem like a small thing, but as a patient, feeling able to make decisions about your own care and have those decisions met with encouragement and respect makes an enormous difference.

The experience during the procedure itself was equally positive. Every member of your team made me feel cared for as a person, rather than simply another patient on a list. Everyone was professional, warm and reassuring, and I would be grateful if you could pass my thanks on to them as well.

Throughout the injection, you explained what was happening and what you were doing before you did it. You made sure I could see the screen, showed me exactly where you were injecting and explained why, and let me know when I was likely to feel discomfort so that I knew what to expect.

One thing I particularly appreciated was you expressly telling me that if the pain became too much, I should let you know and you could back off a little. That made an enormous difference to me. I knew that if I was struggling, you would listen and respond, rather than expecting me simply to endure it. It gave me a sense of control and safety during a procedure that I had previously found extremely painful.

Having experienced what it feels like when pain during a procedure is minimised rather than responded to, I cannot emphasise how different it felt to have a clinician actively check that I was comfortable and make it clear that my experience of what was happening mattered.

Being on the patient side of a procedure can feel incredibly vulnerable. Knowing what was happening to my body, being able to see it for myself, knowing what sensations to expect and knowing that I could speak up if it became too much completely changed the experience for me.

I also really appreciated how gentle and thorough you were with the procedure itself, right through to the way my hand was dressed afterwards. Before I left, you once again reassured me that if the situation with my left hand changed, I should contact you rather than continue struggling with it.

What has struck me even more is the difference in my recovery. Following my previous injection, I experienced significant pain for weeks afterwards, along with swelling in my fingers. I had prepared myself for a similar recovery this time. Instead, the pain has been so much more manageable, it has settled much more quickly and I have not experienced the same swelling. I genuinely feel that the care and technique used during the procedure have contributed to how much better this recovery has been.

I wanted you to know how much I appreciated the kindness, communication and humanity you brought to my care.

Clinical expertise obviously matters enormously, but the way a clinician makes a patient feel while they are in their care matters too. You managed to combine both, and it made an enormous difference to me.
