Dr May Teoh is a Consultant Oncologist specialising in breast cancer.  She is passionate about providing the best possible care for her patients, both in delivering the best quality treatment and also in improving their experience living with and beyond their cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Training and Appointment

Dr May Teoh qualified in 2001 from the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London.  She trained in Clinical Oncology in London at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital.

During Dr Teoh’s training, she also completed an MD(Res) degree at University of Surrey in Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy and PET-guided therapy in Head and Neck Cancer. She was appointed as a substantive Consultant Oncologist at Royal Surrey County Hospital in 2014, where she specialises in breast cancer and acute oncology.

Current Practice

Dr Teoh is currently Acute Oncology Lead at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital. She also takes an active role in the education and training of junior medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team. She is College Tutor and Joint local faculty lead for Oncology at Royal Surrey County Hospital. She is also active in breast cancer research and acts as principal investigator for local participation in clinical trials. She has published in peer-review journals and presented at national and international conferences.

Dr Teoh is passionate about providing the best possible care for her patients, focusing not only on providing the best quality treatment but also on improving their experience living with and beyond their cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr Teoh is Joint Clinical Lead for the Personalised Care and Support programme for Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance.  This programme aims to improve the delivery of patient-centred personalised care, not only in the treatment phase but also in the recovery and follow up phase.

She is currently joint Chief Investigator of PRAGMATIC, a clinical trial which is aiming to assess the experience of patients managed in the supported self management pathway following treatment for breast cancer. She is also an active member of the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance Breast Cancer group.

St Martha’s Cancer Centre at Mount Alvernia Hospital

Within St Martha’s Cancer Centre, there are nine patient rooms and six pods for chemotherapy.  The Centre provides outpatient and day case services to patients.  The service is provided by oncology specialist nurses and consultants and covers diagnostics, intravenous and oral chemotherapy, chemotherapy instillations and monoclonal antibodies therapy.  Chemotherapy is given for a number of tumours including breast, urological, prostate, bowel, ovarian, bladder, haematological conditions, upper and lower GI, brain, pancreas, head and neck and melanoma.  There is a specialist oncology physiotherapy service, and patients have access to acupuncture and alternative therapies.
