Personal Profile

Martin Harvey is a consultant podiatrist and fellow in podiatric medicine who holds regular clinics at the Priory Hospital Birmingham, specialising in all aspects of foot health problems.

He was awarded his degree in podiatric medicine from Sunderland University and gained further postgraduate qualifications from the University of Hertfordshire and Birmingham City University, complemented by specialised training in Austria and Italy. In 2015 he was awarded a consultant fellowship in podiatric medicine by the Institute of Podiatrists and is currently their national director of education.

He is particularly interested in the diagnosis and treatment of pain in the foot and ankle, due to biomechanical problems as well as acute and chronic injury and  disease.

He is qualified in injection and various other therapies, including prescription-only medicines and functional corrective insoles (orthotics), as well as soft-tissue surgery under local anaesthesia including ingrown nail surgery.

He lectures both private and NHS postgraduate podiatrists in advanced continuing professional development techniques at the Universities of Nottingham and Wolverhampton plus the national college of the Institute of Podiatrists.

Other roles have included service on numerous national development and implementation boards for NHS podiatry projects.

In his spare time, he shares his hobbies of  motorcycling (road and track) and scuba diving  with his wife - who additionally is a senior black-belt  Korean martial arts instructor, so he very rarely argues with her.
