About Mr Markus Groppe

Personal Profile

Mr Markus Groppe is a General Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in the management of patients with retinal conditions and cataract. He undertook postgraduate Ophthalmology training in the Oxford and West-Midlands deaneries.

He was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS trust in 2015. His NHS clinics are in Stoke Mandeville and Amersham and he strives to deliver best care and the latest treatments to all his patients.

Markus Groppe intensified his surgical training with a Retina Fellowship of the University of Alberta Canada in 2015. He had the opportunity to train in an excellent centre and is familiar with the latest surgical techniques and developments.

In 2010 he was appointed as Academic Clinical Lecturer by the University of Oxford and Honorary Academic Clinical Lecturer at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He combined his clinical training with academic research. He worked on Retinal Gene-therapy and Retinal microchip implants. This research has been published and presented at national and international level. He holds a PhD in Ophthalmology and concluded further research on degeneration of the retina.

He enjoys living in Buckinghamshire with his wife and two children.
