Dr Mark Williams is a Consultant Cardiologist.

Training and Appointment

Dr Williams graduated in medicine from Kings College Hospital, University of London, in 1997 and subsequently became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of England. He pursued a clinical research fellowship in Systemic sclerosis-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension at the Royal Free Hospital under the supervision of Dr Gerry Coghlan and Professor Christopher Denton and was then awarded his MD in clinical research from the University of London.

Dr Williams completed specialist training in interventional cardiology at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and King's College Hospital, London. He was appointed as Locum Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Sussex County Hospital Brighton in 2011 and subsequently a substantive post as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2013.

Dr Williams has extensive experience in interventional cardiology, performing simple and complex coronary intervention. He successfully completed training in CT coronary angiography and has significant experience in interpreting these scans and managing patients accordingly.

Teaching and Publications

Dr Williams was instrumental in establishing a 24/7 Primary Coronary Angioplasty Service at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey. Local patients now no longer have to be transported out of area for emergency treatment.

He has an excellent track record in teaching. He has been in charge of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospital. He is an honorary senior lecturer at St George’s Hospital where he’s been teaching in recent years.

He supports local research and development and has been investigator on a number of studies. He is has received peer reviews and also excellent patient feedback.

Current Practice

Dr Williams is especially interested in management of ischaemic heart disease. He also has a special interest in pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, chest pain, angina, valvular heart disease, left and right heart catheterisation and more general cardiology.
