About Ms Marianne Sampson

Personal Profile

Marianne graduated from Cambridge University in 1996, and then subsequently completed specialist training in General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery in the North East Thames Deanery, gaining her FRCS qualification in 2008.

During her training, she learned advanced laparoscopic skills and performed oesophageal and gastric cancer surgery, as well as training in bariatric surgery at University College Hospital. She was awarded the Cutler’s Prize and spent a fellowship period in 2007 at the National Cancer Centre in Tokyo.

She was appointed to a consultant post at the Royal Berkshire hospital in 2009, and has been developing the bariatric service there since 2012, as well as pioneering robotic surgery for weight loss in the UK. Marianne takes a very active role in training and mentoring and she is a regular Training Faculty member at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
