About Dr Mac Macheta

Personal Profile

Dr Mac Macheta has been Consultant Haematologist for 20 years at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals where he has led it’s development to become the regional tertiary referral centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria since 2007. He is Chair of the regional Haematology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting and Director for the Stem Cell Transplant Programme. He has also been Chair of Network Site-specific Group (NSSG) for Haematology and is regional lead for the network lymphoma guidelines. In his time in Blackpool Dr Macheta has led the development of the clinical trial portfolio such that the majority of national trials have been available to patients in the region and Blackpool is regularly among the highest recruiters to national and commercial trials.

Clinical Interests

Dr Macheta has wide experience in the range of haematological disorders including investigation and treatment of anaemia and abnormal blood counts, blood clotting disorders and venous thrombosis, blood transfusion and malignant haematological disorders. His particular clinical interests are multiple myeloma, lymphoma and chronic leukaemias.
