Mr Manickam Thiagarajan qualified as a Doctor from King's College Hospital in 1992. He trained in general medicine completing his MRCP during 1996 and subsequently undertook ophthalmology as a senior house officer at Western Eye Hospital, St Thomas’s hospital and as a Registrar at Southampton General Hospital.

He undertook a higher degree at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in Epidemiology. Mr Thiagarajan gained extensive experience and competence in all aspects of ophthalmology and, in particular, the medical retina subspecialties. The specialist training includes fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital in medical retina and uveitis and also continued as a locum consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital. He became a consultant ophthalmologist in 2011 at the Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington and at Queens Mary’s Sidcup. He provide a general ophthalmic service and specialise in treating medical retinal conditions.
